Isaac’s Tea Trail
Alston and the Nent Valley is a section on the popular Isaac's Tea Trail, a 37 miles long distance footpath. This is the perfect way to enjoy the best a tranquil part of the North Country of heather capped moors and tumbling streams. The trail runs almost by the doorstep at Lovelady and is mid way from the start in Allendale in Northumberland.
As the walk is circular you can make you start and finish from Lovelady Shield. If you don't want the challenge of the full distance, easier shorter sections can be followed down the Nent Valley to either Alston or Nenthead.
The route is fully way marked throughout and can be found on Ordnance Survey maps. The trail is named after Isaac Holden, an itinerant tea seller, whose family hailed from Alston Moor and follows in his footsteps where he plied his trade.

St Augustine of Canterbury Church

Killhope Lead Mining Museum

You can also see the working waterwheel, the ore processing plant, and the wildlife garden. Killhope Lead Mining Museum is just 5.6 miles (9 km) away from our country house property and is an educational and entertaining attraction for all ages.
Ashgill Force
This spectacular waterfall plunges into a deep pool and can be reached by a short walk along the river. You can also enjoy the scenery of the woodland and the moorland as you walk to this natural wonder. Ashgill Force is only 6.6 miles (10.6 km) away from our country house property and is a stunning sight to visit.
Alston Moor Golf Club
Alston Moor Golf Club is the highest golf club in England and comprises 10 holes and 18 tees of parkland perched on top of the Pennines with panoramic views of the South Tyne Valley , Cross Fell and views as far as the Scottish borders on a clear day. The course is an under played gem of a course and at £15 per day is exceptional value. Club hire is available for a small donation by prior notice. Clubhouse is available with prior notice for large groups.
